In August 2013 we included a blog on Practicon’s web site
about five types of team meetings, some combination of which are used by most
successful practices. One of the five is
a Morning Huddle, a 5-to-10 minute survey of the work day ahead in which
dentist and team members look at the schedule, review treatment or personal
notes about particular patients, and make certain obstacles to a smooth patient
flow are removed, thereby assuring a relatively stress free, productive
day. This brief time before patients begin accomplishes several things:
*It assures
all staff members arrive promptly, ready to begin the day on time.
*It allows business staff to inform the
dentist and clinical staff of any last minute changes to the day’s schedule.
*It is a
time to confirm that all lab cases scheduled for delivery that day are back and ready.
*It
provides time for a brief reminder to the dentist of any personal details appropriate for discussion with
individual patients, an excellent tool for personalizing care.
*It allows
a breath-catching, quiet moment for a word of prayer, a positive sharing among the team, a moment of silence---whatever
allows your team
to begin the day enthused, organized, and on the same page.
