DENTISTRY RANKS AS ONE OF THE TOP FIVE "BEST JOBS"
Year after year, the dental profession ranks near the top of U.S. News and World Report's list of the 100 Best Jobs. In 2018, Dentistry ranked No. 2 with Orthodontics at No. 5 and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at No. 8. In 2019, Dentistry ranks No. 4 with Orthodontics at No. 6 and Oral and Maxilofacial Surgery at No. 10. Software Development is No. 1; Statistician, No. 2; and Physicians Assistant, No. 3.The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has predicted that between 2016 and 2026, there will be a 17.5% growth in the number of dental practitioners, a total of approximately 23,200 new positions. Many factors make the dental profession a favored career choice, including an attractive salary range (annual average estimated at $153,900), work/life balance with sufficient personal time away from the office, and an unemployment rate of only 0.4%.
