PPE (PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT) --- A REQUIREMENT OF THE BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN STANDARD

PPE includes gloves, gowns, face shields, masks, eye protection, lab coats, etc.  Protection for at-risk employees during treatment procedures is a given; equal attention is mandatory for employees during the decontamination process.  Heavy duty utility gloves are a major piece of PPE during cleanup, decontamination, and sterilization of instruments and equipment.  The heavy duty gloves should be puncture resistant, impervious to chemicals, available to staff in a variety of sizes, and long enough to cover the forearm for protection.
