HOW ABOUT A SITE
CHECK FOR YOUR OFFICE?
When asked what keeps them as patients in a practice, individuals
often include, among other reasons, comments about the cleanliness and overall
attractiveness of the office itself. Of course, patients expect their dentist
to deliver top-notch dentistry with excellent “bedside manner.” Patients also
expect to receive that service in a modern, tidy, organized space that is
impeccably clean, smells nice, plays the “right kind” of music, with additional
amenities like a coffee bar, Wi-Fi, and nice tissue in a spotless patient
bathroom.
How long has it been since you and your staff objectively
evaluated your office appearance and ambiance? Suggestion: at your next staff
meeting, ask each person to tour the area of the office in which they do not work daily, observing critically,
as a patient might, while making detailed notes about the appearance of the
area. Assign business staff the task of starting at the door to the clinical
area to survey every detail: floors, walls, windows, woodwork, lights, décor,
treatment chairs, equipment, X-ray cubicles, lab (if it shows to the public),
patient bathrooms, general clutter, and so on. Ask them to continue out the
back door, including rear parking areas, trash receptacles, property and lawn
maintenance, etc. Clinical staff should similarly scrutinize the business desk,
conference rooms, staff lounge, public restrooms, entryway, front door, driveway
and parking lots, signage, and yard maintenance.
Combine the lists, prioritize work to be done, assign
responsibilities, hire contractors if necessary, and get going on making your
office as attractive, clean, and organized as possible. Your patients will
appreciate the positive changes while you and your staff will enjoy working in
a rejuvenated space that shouts, “We care!”
